Brandon Valley High School provides a comprehensive band program that serves over 190 students. The main performing ensembles include the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Bands, two to three jazz bands, two pep bands, and a 165 member marching band known as the "Marching Lynx."

Concert Bands

The Brandon Valley High School Concert Bands present 3-5 concerts each year, performing the best of wind band literature. For the past 17 consecutive years, the Wind Ensemble/ Symphonic Band has received superior ratings at the South Dakota Region/State music contest. The Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band has also been invited to play at the South Dakota Bandmaster's Conference on four separate occasions as well as the South Dakota Music Educator's Conference for the first time in 2017. 

Jazz Bands

The jazz program at Brandon Valley focuses on traditional jazz styles and improvisation. The music of Ellington, Basie, Mingus, and other jazz greats can be heard at each concert. The jazz bands regularly perform and compete in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota and have earned numerous awards. 

Pep Band

The pep bands perform at a number of athletic events throughout the year and have been selected to perform at the SD state basketball tournament a number of times.

Marching Band

The “Marching Lynx” are a regionally competitive band that competes in South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota. The band has a proud and rich tradition that includes appearances at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, the Hollywood Christmas Parade, the Liberty Bowl, the Gator Bowl, the Camping World Bowl and many other national venues. 

Brandon Valley Indoor Drumline (BVi)

Comprised of 8th-12th graders, the indoor drumline is a type of marching ensemble consisting of battery and front ensemble instruments. It differs from a traditional percussion ensemble by featuring not only musical performance but also theatrics and marching.
